The Pagoda is back. This Berks County icon has been the subject of photos for 100 years and deservedly so.
It's new LED lights were turned on at New Years and are brighter and better then ever. See the Historical Society of Berks Pagoda for a detailed history or Google "Berks County Pagoda" for tons of stories.
Signs on the first floor indicate that it will be closed for interior renovations until March 2009.
I am looking forward to going back to the observation level where the views are most impressive. It is definitely worth the fee for those extra 60+ feet of elevation allow you to see as far north as Muhlenburg and beyond all the way to the Limerick cooling towers.
The last shot is of the "Witches Hat" on Neversink Mountain, as seen in my previous blogs. In fact, in all the years I've been looking out from the Pagoda this is the first time I looked for and found the "Wiches Hat".
A closer look at the photo, below and to the right of the hat, is a shadowed section of pine trees. This is where the small clearing can be found called the "overlook".
